It’s always fun to see new teams and new players so tonight was a treat. I’ve seen Lane the past few seasons but the Indians have really matured into a very good team.
Joe Henricksen and I did our annual Stock Report episode of No Shot Clock this week. Give it a listen if you get a chance, we review more than 60 teams.
I don’t remember if I bought, sold or held Lane stock. But consider me a buyer now. The Indians have the talent to make some noise in the city and the state tournament.
Prosser is also on the rise. Former star Perrick “Moon” Robinson is back coaching his alma mater and has just one senior starter. Sophomore Norvell Meadows could be a future star.
Also, Simeon coach Robert Smith left yesterday’s game against Kenwood at halftime. He was having some chest pains but is doing fine now. He’ll miss the Wolverines’ next two games.
Good news: I’ll have some help out on the beat for the rest of the season. Ben Pope, a student at Northwestern, will be covering games and writing some features as part of his internship at the Sun-Times. He was at Orr’s win against Uplift tonight.
Wednesday’s top games
No. 20 Lincoln Park 66, North Lawndale 60: The Lions have a rugged schedule this week and start it off nicely. Tahir Thompson had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Tavis Stampley added 14 points. The Phoenix just keep coming up a bit short this season.
Payton 61, Foreman 42: Ronan Prugh scored 22 and Jabari Chiphe added 12 in the road win.
Lyons 52, Downers Grove North 50: Tyrese Shines (18 points), Nolan Niego (14 points) and Josh Berry (10 points) all chipped in for the Lions. Semaj Henderson scored 21 for Downers Grove North.
Austin 62, Juarez 54: Big game in the Blue-West as the Tigers knock off first place Juarez on the road. Senior Jeffrey Smith had 18 points and 24 rebounds and sophomore Kevin Gentry added 17.
Taft 48, Von Steuben 35: The Eagles are now 4-1 in the White-North. Louie Piatkowski lead the way with 12 points and a few charges (you can tell that tidbit is from a coach).
Huntley 67, Hampshire 53: I’m curious about both of these teams. Uchenna Egekeze had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Red Raiders. Collin Woods led Hampshire with 23 points.
Clemente 48, Douglass 38: The Wildcats had three players in double figures including sophomores Trey Spires and Terrell Taylor. Senior Djunayel Denham scored a career-high 11 points and had eight rebounds.
Wells 72, Legal Prep 49: Eric Fowler scored 18 for the Raiders and Jermaine Jordan added 16.
Collins 74, Raby 56: Jacquan Embrey is one of those unknown kids that can definitely play. He had 28 points and eight assists. Demarcus Williams scored 23.
Senn 85, Chicago Quest 53: Speaking of unknown players, Noah Chatman dropped 50 tonight. He also had seven rebounds and four assists. I’ve heard good things about him and will be around to see Senn as soon as possible.
Chicago Academy 99, Aspira 37: Put another freshman on the list. Frosh Anthony Zepeda scored 21 in the win.
No. 6 Young 82, Crane 54: The Dolphins cruise on the road.
Farragut 90, Marshall 81: The Admirals are on a roll. They will get a shot at Bogan this weekend.
