Simeon’s Kejuan Clements (0) grabs the ball. Worsom Robinson/For the Sun-Times.

Simeon is 1-5 and that is pretty wild. Robert Smith has only lost five or more games in three other seasons. The Wolverines were 29-5 has first season in charge, when Derrick Rose and Tim Flowers were sophomores.

They were 18-10 in 2008-09 and then 25-9 in 2009-10 but when on to win the Class 4A state title. Senior Brandon Spearman took his play to another level in that playoff run. I had Simeon ranked No. 25 when the playoffs started and even that was kind of a stretch. I remember thinking I would throw them in just in case.

Could something like that happen this season? It is unlikely, but you never know. The Wolverines have some very talented players and I definitely expect them to be a major factor this season.

Thursday’s top games

No. 12 Marian Catholic 57, Notre Dame 50: This was a close one, good sign for a very young Dons team. Chris White scored 22 for the Spartans and sophomore Anthony Sayles scored 19 for Notre Dame. Waukegan visits Chicago Heights on Saturday.

No. 4 Morgan Park 72, No. 17 Kenwood 63: Really nice bounce back win for the Mustangs. Perhaps all the Twitter hysteria around them will subside a bit. Morgan Park is very good.

Ag. Science 72, Carver 32: Kyle Rowan scored 26 for the 8-2 Cylones.

No. 5 Bogan 86, Corliss 73: Rashaun Agee continues to dominate as the Bengals grab a big road win. Agee had 27 points and 14 rebounds and it is probably time to start seriously considering him for Player of the Year. I know it is early, but it is always wise for me to start keeping stats. Jordan Booker had 12 points and four assists and Jeremiah Washington added 12 points and five assists.

Shepard 69, St. Anne 53: Burtron Harper had 22 and Terrell Richmond added 14. The Astros improve to 7-2.

Johnsburg 59, Marengo 46: Toussaint Watch might be heating up. Senior Zach Toussaint scored 36.

Brooks 79, Longwood 66: Nehemiah Clark scored 17 and Isaiah Tolbert had a great all around game with 11 points, seven assists and five steals.

Solorio 65, Harper 56: Jordan Hill scored 22 and freshman Donovan Jones added 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Sun Warriors are 6-4.
