Typical tight, defensive conference battle tonight in Glenview. New Trier and Glenbrook South are clearly two of the area’s better teams. Both are going to be big problems at holiday tournament time.

It’ll be interesting to see if either team can develop into a major threat to the area powerhouses by March. The Trevians were clearly able to keep Glenbrook South’s offense from getting into any kind of flow. It was easy to see why Titans junior Dom Martinelli is putting up such big numbers this season. He’s a very smart player. He went on a personal 10-0 run late in the game to drag Glenbrook South back into the game.

Great crowd in Glenview, even a big student section. It’s great to see that community excited about high school basketball again. I have a lot of fond memories of Glenbrook North-Glenbrook South battles in the Titan Dome.

Wednesday’s top games

Westinghouse 71, Jones 55: Joe Henricksen says that Devin Davis is for real. I’m looking forward to checking him out. Davis filled up the stat sheet tonight with 19 points, eight assists and five steals. Mark Carter added 18 points and eight boards.

Payton 68, Marine 39: The Grizzlies improve to 5-2 and 3-0 in the White North. Jabari Chiphe and Ronan Prugh each scored 15.

Taft 67, Mather 65: Jared Bandi scored 19 and had a huge block late in the game. This sets up a big White North showdown on Friday at Payton. The Eagles are also 3-0 in the conference.

Morton 78, Argo 53: Latik Murphy led Morton with 19. The Mustangs are 5-3 against a pretty tough schedule. Quincy Cobbs and Samer Qutaish each scored 10 for the Argonauts.

Kankakee 78, St. Francis de Sales 31: Darion Binon scored 20 for the Kays and Lavell McIntosh added 15 points and eight boards. I’m hearing that St. Francis de Sales does have a seven footer and he may be eligible soon.

Marshall 62, No. 22 Lane 60 OT: The Commandos are so, so tough to beat at home. Marshall is 5-1.

No. 16 Bolingbrook 74, Romeoville 66: Darius Burford leads the Raiders to the big rivalry win at home. He scored 25, Joseph Yesufu added 21. The Raiders were 17 of 19 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter according to Jeff DeGraw.

Wells 68, Douglass 42: Eric Fowler drops 33 points. Three different players have scored 33 for the Raiders this season. Kinda weird, but a good sign for them.

Collins 62, Clark 60: Big win at the buzzer for the Warriors.

Orr 67, Lincoln Park 55: Tujautae Williams was just short of a triple-double in this one with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Greg Outlaw scored 21 and Terry Williams had 11.

No. 1 Young 60, Prosser 59: The Dolphins survive on the road without DJ Steward. Keenan Jones drained a clutch free throw with 0.3 seconds to seal the win. No word yet on why Steward didn’t play. He was at the game.

North Lawndale 75, Farragut 58: Demetrius Douglas goes off with 25 points and seven rebounds. Larry Johnson scored 14 and Daveon Rogers added 1o.

Austin 88, Manley 52: Sophomore Kevin Gentry had 15 points, 11 assists and five steals. Junior Mario Lloyd added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 23 Uplift 59, Crane 49: The Titans pull off the win.
