The Super 25 sees a major shakeup after several ranked teams lost in the second round of the IHSA state football playoffs. Oswego (10-1) falls from No. 24 to No. 3 after being knocked out, Glenbard East (10-1) exits the list entirely and four new teams join the rankings as the quarterfinals await this weekend.

Loyola (8-3) returns to the Super 25 for the first time in months at No. 15 following its 22-0 shutout of Oswego in Wilmette. The Ramblers appear to have overcome their midseason struggles at the right time, especially on the defensive end of the ball. However, the road to Champaign doesn’t get any easier from here with a road matchup against Maine South (10-1), which is coming off a 41-14 second-round win over Waubonsie Valley.

St. Charles North (8-3), Naperville Central (7-4) and Antioch (11-0) are the other newcomers for Week 12.

There are 21 ranked teams still alive in the playoffs and 10 of them remain unbeaten this season. Those numbers will get smaller by the end of the quarterfinals. Here’s the full list entering Week 12 of the 2018 season.

Why did Hillcrest go down a spot instead of moving up?

CK: Rice and Mt. Carmel didn’t play this year.

Thanks for paying respect to NC. They played an extremely difficult schedule, gave LWE their biggest challenge of the season and played them far tougher than either HF or GBE. Scored the most points on CG and lost a nail-biter to Marist by 3 points. They were 1-2 defensive players from the finals. It’s a little meaningless at this point but, If Marist moves on, NC should also move up.

Marist will “upset” HF. Marist 35 HF 21.

Brother Rice should be #2. I am a Marist grad and we’re neighborhood rivals, but Rice would beat either Batavia or HF.

How are teams with one loss, two losses to teams that are still alive not in the top 25? You have multiple teams who are eliminated on your list. Is there an opening for this job next year? I could throw a dart at the Illinois Football Coaches Association Clinic and hit someone who could do a better job than this.

You know…. 5 of the teams Brother Rice played during this season , and beat, are still alive in the IHSA playoffs after the second round ….Crete-Monee, Montini, Marist, Mt. Carmel, and Loyola. Fancy that!!!

The reason why you haven’t seen Warren coming is because you haven’t taken the time to see them come. 61 points from there defense all year! Don’t be surprised!

Brother Rice is undefeated and maybe it is because
they did NOT play Mt. Carmel this year. Fancy that
