CJ Wilbourn of Normal has been one of the more under-appreciated players in the senior class.
But the 6-7 senior felt the appreciation from Wisconsin-Milwaukee and committed to coach Pat Baldwin following an official visit to the Milwaukee campus this past weekend.
“I’m feeling great about this,” says Wilbourn of his commitment to the Panthers. “I loved the atmosphere there, and I felt comfortable with them.”
Wilbourn has seen the interest pick up this fall as more Division I coaches were popping in and starting to get involved. But Baldwin and his staff were on Wilbourn following the July period and pushed ahead with the official visit this past weekend, which made the difference.
“What stood out to me was coach [Pat] Baldwin and the coaching staff –– coach [Paris] Parham and coach [Pat] Monaghan,” says Wilbourn. “The energy and intensity they bring impressed me. I was able to go to their elite camp earlier and then watched a practice of theirs this weekend. I think they can make me a much better basketball player in my four years there.”
Wilbourn, who averaged 11.2 points a game as a junior last season, is a skilled big man with an outstanding basketball body. He has the ability to score around the basket with a soft touch and step outside beyond the three-point line.
