Leo beat St. Joseph 30-18 on Friday.

Senior running back Jalen Harris had 184 yards on just 11 carries and his first career touchdown for the Lions (2-3, 2-2). Harris had runs of 63, 33 and 22 yards, the 63-yarder was for a touchdown. Junior Tobias Sample had 125 yards on 15 carries and touchdown runs of eight and 19 yards. Sophomore Jalyn Johnson had 51 yards on nine carries, including a 21-yard touchdown. Leo ran for a season-best 358 yards.

The Lions led 22-6 with 11:19 left, but St. Joseph (0-5, 0-4) got within 22-18 on Mekhi Eiland’s 66-yard kickoff return and Aamir Burgie’s 4-yard TD run, which Burgie set up with a 56-yard interception return.

But Leo took nearly six minutes off the clock by covering 60 yards on 11 straight running plays, putting the game away with Sample’s 19-yard TD run.

Burgie had five carries for 75 yards, including a 56-yard run, one catch for 24 yards and the 56-yard interception return.
