Homewood-Flossmoor blanks Bolingbrook

No. 4 Homewood-Flossmoor beat No. 23 Bolingbrook 29-0 on Friday, but it wasn’t in the Vikings’ signature style of high-flying offense and explosive plays. It was the defense that made the difference.

“This year is the first time that I’ve had to retrain my brain and not think that we have to score 50 points a game,” Homewood-Flossmoor coach Craig Buzea said. “That is a special group, it’s a special defensive group.”

The Vikings have only allowed 14 points in their last three games, two of which have been shutouts.

Leon Tanna was the offensive standout for Homewood-Flossmoor (4-0). The senior scored three touchdowns.

“He’s not as flashy as Justin Hall but he will put the production up,” Buzea said.

Buzea says that the offensive line has been a game-changer for the Vikings this season.

“[The offensive line] wasn’t very good in Week 1 but we have four guys that had never played a varsity snap and those guys have grown up,” Buzea said.

The Raiders (3-1) are loaded with talented athletes, including Anthony Williams Jr., a running back that has committed to Michigan State. But Homewood-Flossmoor was ready to deal with them.

“We had a simple game plan,” Buzea said. “tThey have two guys that could be playing in the NFL one day in their backfield. We wanted to run the ball, keep them off the field and make their quarterback beat us. Getting the shutout was important, because these guys want to leave their mark.”
