Football recruiting notebook: Loyola’s Noah Jones turning heads

Loyola wide receiver Noah Jones was a consistent contributor and offensive weapon for the Ramblers as a junior.

One of his most memorable moments from last season was adding his first offer, which was from Central Michigan.

“It was an amazing feeling,” Jones said. “I felt like all of my hard work had finally paid off and I was extremely excited.”

The offers and interest has continued to roll in from schools all over the country. Jones recently took a visit to Purdue.

“Recruiting has been going very well overall,” Jones said. “I currently hold offers from Northern Iowa, South Dakota, Colgate, Fordham, Dartmouth, Brown, Ball State, Holy Cross, Western Michigan, Howard, Air Force and Central Michigan.”

The 6-2, 195-pound prospect has interest from Missouri, Michigan State, Michigan, Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State and more.

Miami of Ohio continues to sweep the Chicago area and land oral commitments. The latest is from Rich Central’s all-around athlete

The latest to commit is Rich Central all around athlete Mekhi Miller.

“The first time I visited Miami I fell in love with the campus and its facilities,” Miller said.

That seems to be the case for multiple area prospects, including Simeon quarterback Alante Brown and Nazareth running back Devin Blakley. All three have the potential to contribute early for the RedHawks.

“I met with safeties coach Bill Brechin and defensive coordinator John Hauser and they seemed really cool and knowledgeable and could potentially aid me in many ways,” Miller said. “Then about a month or two later they asked me to make another visit and get to know head coach Chuck Martin,” Miller said.

It wasn’t long from then when Miller knew he was ready to commit.

“After that I met with players and had many questions for them,” Miller said. “They answered them truthfully and what I wanted to know about Miami from that perspective was answered.

The 6-1, 170-pounder made his decision on the drive back home.

Goston to NIU

Northern Illinois recently landed a commitment from Raby’s Romel Goston.

With recruiting out of the way the 6-1, 170-pound athlete is ready to focus on his upcoming senior season.

“I believe we can be better than the last year’s team, we were just young,” Goston said. “Looking back to my freshmen year we had a lot of young kids with a handful of seniors, and went 10-3. I’d say we need to come together and focus just like we did in 2015.”

Last year was a special season for Raby.

“We got all the way to the semifinals because of us all focusing on one common goal,” Goston said. “So I think we need to improve on everyone doing their job and coming together to build the bond we had last year.”
