Corliss guard Kobe Mapp (2) gets past North Lawndale's Javante Brackens (10), Tuesday 02-06-18. Worsom Robinson/For the Sun-Times.

Corliss big man George Conditt is clearly still a work in progress, but he is already a force on the high school basketball court.

That’s primarily due to his high-energy and his overall effort. As Trojans coach Harvey Jones said after the game, Conditt worked for every point and rebound he got.

Read all about Corliss’ big win against North Lawndale.

The Trojans weren’t the only White team to win. Lane beat Harlan and UP-Englewood downed Marshall. Payton and Julian also played well. The super conferences didn’t look very super tonight. It was clear when the conferences were announced that some bad decisions were made. Hopefully things are better next season.

If you listen to No Shot Clock you’ve heard me talk about the White. They play some good basketball in that conference. It has a second class reputation because of the Public League setup, but plenty of the White teams are as good or better than your average suburban team. They showed that tonight.

The pairings for the second round are here.

Tonight’s top games

Orr 73, Foreman 42: Chase Adams had 16 points and five assists and Dannie Smith added 14.

Lane 48, Harlan 40: Anyone paying attention knew that Lane should have been in the Red-North/West this season. The Indians won the White-North with a perfect 9-0 record and now they are in the second round of the playoffs. Calvin Keyes had 14 points. Zach Krysztopik added 12.

Farragut 65, Westinghouse 50: Big game for junior Aaron Strong with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Donavan Jones added 16 points and eight boards

Bogan 71, Julian 58: Tyreon Hardin led the Bengals with 17. Courtney Fields added 11 points and nine rebounds. The Jaguars lost this game by 30 back in December, so this was quite an improvement.

Curie 88, Hubbard 32: Jayden Gasby scored 14 and Maurice Commander added 13. Big game for Treavon Martin with 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.

UP-Englewood 62, Marshall 57: Another win for the White. Eddie Anderson had 22 points and nine rebounds and DeVonte Williams added 16 points and four assists.

Kenwood 70, Dunbar 59: No highlights for this one.

Lincoln Park 68, Collins 50: The Lions are back on track. Terrence Shannon had 16 points and eight rebounds, Chris Roberts added 16 points and five rebounds and freshman Ismail Habib chipped in 12.

Simeon 114, Longwood 65: A stat-stuffing night for the Wolverines. Kejuan Clements had 26 points and 10 assists. Kenny Pittman scored 21 points, Talen Horton-Tucker put up 19 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and seven blocks. Xavier Pinson scored 18 points.

Hyde Park 80, Brooks 62: The Thunderbirds were led by Malik Onyeali with 21 points and six rebounds and Braijon Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Uplift 75, Payton 63: Toraze Dobbs had 25 points and 11 boards and Markese Jacobs scored 18. The Grizzlies kept pace for most of the game. Sophomore Jabari Chiphe had 20 points and five rebounds for Payton.

Young 82, Clark 54: Myles Baker doesn’t get much hype but he has had a really nice season. Scored 21 tonight. Senior Javon Freeman added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Vocational 70, Crane 58: The Cavaliers snap Crane’s seven-game winning streak. Sophomore Robert Hobbs led the Cougars with 21 points and six rebounds. Didn’t receive any highlights from Vocational.

Prosser 66, Von Steuben 57: Will Bynum had 18 points and nine rebounds. Tyree Fincher added 15 points and seven assists.

Morgan Park 98, King 54: Ayo Dosunmu is back. He had 42 points, nine assists and six rebounds. The Mustangs retired his jersey. I don’t remember that ever happening during a player’s career before.

Bolingbrook 87, Sandburg 72: The Raiders end their three-game losing streak. Joseph Yesufu scored 20 and Tyler Cochran added 17.

Lincoln-Way East 60, Lockport 35: Sam Shafer scored 16 and broke the school records for career free throws and field goals.

Evanston 43, Loyola 40: Big one for the Maine East sectional seeds. Jaheim Holden led the Wildkits with 15 and Lance Jones scored 12.

Wheaton-Warrenville South 46, Naperville Central 30: Big margin of victory for the Tigers. Jake Healy scored 17.

What is that principal at Morgan Park doing……retiring jerseys what has he accomplished at Morgan Park that hasn’t been already done? The girls track team and football team has had more success under a different set of challenges. Please stop this buffoonery that circles that basketball program and play ball.
