Former Chicago Bulls player Craig Hodges has resigned as head basketball coach at Rich East.

According to a release sent out by the school Hodges decided to leave the team for personal reasons.

“From a personal standpoint, it is time for me to take a different approach on how I am going to impact Rich East,” Hodges said in a statement. “The love I have for Rich East has not diminished at all.”

Jamaal Hodges, Craig’s son, will take over as interim coach.

Hodges’ last game at the helm was on Wednesday at Marist, the Rockets lost 67-49. Hodges received a technical foul in the third quarter for arguing with an official.

The Rockets are currently 6-4. They made a brief appearance in the Super 25 rankings earlier this season. The team was 12-15 last year, Hodges’ first in charge.

Hodges graduated from Rich East in 1978. He played in the NBA for 10 years and was on the Bulls title-winning teams in 1991 and 1992. He has been an assistant for several professional teams and was the head coach at Chicago State for three years. This was his first high school head coaching job.
