Phil Brozynski’s girls basketball notes

1. The Public League playoffs resume Tuesday with the quarterfinals. Marshall (17-5) will face Taft (16-8), led by Laken Pullman and Samantha Anderson. Morgan Park (17-7), which ousted last year’s runner-up Brooks in the second round, will meet Jones (18-5) and Sophie and Taylor Brooks. Defending city champion Young (22-1) plays Kenwood (18-7), which features Anaya McDavid and Tarsheia Page. Brittany Byrd and Bogan (16-8) take on North Lawndale (15-10). The semifinals are at 5 and 7 p.m. Friday at the University of Chicago with the finals Saturday at 6 p.m.

2. The present doesn’t look too bad, but the future may be even brighter at Trinity (21-3), where freshmen Alisa Fallon, Lauren Lee, Daliyah Brown and Alex Fanning are playing big minutes. “I’m hoping everyone in the world sees how good our freshmen are,” coach Ed Stritzel said. “They’re fearless, and they are getting better and better and better. So I feel real good about our chances going forward.” Trinity also returns juniors Annie McKenna and Kaitlyn Aylward, who had 22 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s loss at Young, in 2015-16.

3. Benet (24-2) likely is all that stands between Marian Catholic (21-2) and a third consecutive unbeaten run through the East Suburban Catholic, arguably the state’s toughest conference. Benet moved to 5-2 in league play after Saturday’s 74-61 victory at Marist while Marian Catholic blasted Carmel to improve to 8-0. The two teams will get together Wednesday in Lisle. Marian Catholic’s only two losses came at the Montini Christmas Tournament. The Spartans close out league play at home February 14 against Fenwick (12-14, 4-3).
