Adam Miller, Peoria Manual’s star point guard, has transferred to Morgan Park according to his mother Andrea Garry.

The 6-3 rising sophomore is one of the top prospects in the nation. He has a scholarship offer from Illinois.

Garry recently completed her Master’s degree. That, along with a change in the principal and basketball coach at Peoria Manual, led to the move.

“Really I’ve always wanted to move to Chicago,” Garry said. “We have family up this way. I found a teaching job here so it just made sense.”

Miller played with the Mac Irvin Fire on the EYBL circuit this past summer.

“I’ve known [Morgan Park coach] Nick Irvin forever,” Garry said. “We are excited about Morgan Park. It just happened to be the best place and area for us.”

Garry and Miller’s father, Adam Miller Sr., both played basketball at Peoria Manual and graduated in the early 2000’s.

“Adam’s swagger on the court comes from his father, his work ethic comes from me,” Garry said. “His dad had that swagger. He could get to the hole. Adam brings a 2017-type thing to it. Adam’s passion for basketball is like a surgeon’s passion for medicine. It just means so much to him.”

Garry said Chicago’s violence epidemic didn’t have much influence on the family’s decision.

“We came from Peoria Manual,” Garry said. “It is about the same type of situation. Peoria is just a smaller version.”

Miller will join senior Ayo Dosunmu in what could be the state’s best backcourt.

“Adam reminds me a lot of Marcus Lovett with his flashy ball handling skills, knack of getting to the rim and the way he shoots it from three,” Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin said. “He’s a grimy player, gets people involved. Just an all-around great player.”

Here’s Joe Henricksen’s take on Miller from back in June:

“Miller is a dazzling point guard prospect. He shoots it, passes it and plays with imagination. He was a big name coming into high school and has lived up to the early hype. More importantly, Miller’s arrow is still pointing straight up.”
