Former Crane and Manley coach Anthony Longstreet is the new boys basketball coach at Proviso West.

“We wanted to bring in a proven coach who could help enhance scholarship opportunities and instill discipline while getting our kids to the next level of competitive basketball,” Proviso West Athletic Director Calvin Davis said.

Longstreet coached at Crane for 13 years with a 268-100 record. He started in the Blue Division in 1995 and created a city powerhouse. The program produced dozens of standout players, including Tony Allen, Will Bynum, Sherron Collins and Tyrone Kent.

The Cougars won the city title in 2003 and advanced to the Elite Eight in Peoria in 2005.

Longstreet replaces former Sun-Times Player of the Year Michael Ingram, who coached the Panthers for three seasons.
