Vince Carter, one of the Public League’s most respected coaches, is out at Von Steuben after an 18-year run. Carter agreed to step down after a conversation with the Von Steuben administration.
“I would like to still be doing it,” Carter said.
Carter started at Von Steuben in 1977, he recently retired as a math teacher. He led the Panthers to the IHSA Elite Eight in 2003. His 2004 team, led by Angel Santiago and Ryne Hamblet, was the Sun-Times preseason No. 1 squad.
Marvin Williams will take over for Carter. He’s a longtime assistant at Von Steuben. Williams and Carter were co-head coaches last season.
