Raekwon Drake’s triple-double puts Orr one win away from state

Brian Hernandez is Orr’s most vocal player. He is crystal clear about the Spartans’ intentions this month.

“100 percent, our goal is to win the state title,” Hernandez said on Friday after the Spartans knocked off DePaul Prep 64-54 to win the Class 2A Guerin Prep Sectional.

Ultra-athletic junior Raekwon Drake led the Spartans (20-5) with a triple-double: 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks. He’s one of the state’s best shot blockers.

“The blocks create good chances to get the ball to our shooters,” Drake said.

Hernandez added 11 points and Dannie Smith scored 17 for Orr.

“Basketball is a mental game, when I’m active, my team is active,” Hernandez said. “I knew their guard was a freshman so I knew I’d be able to get in his head easily.”

Orr is now just one game from advancing to the state tournament in Peoria. The Spartans play Collins in the Joliet Central supersectional on Tuesday.
