Joliet west beat Lincoln way central by 2. Bolingbrook beat them by 38. Joliet beat Romeoville by 12. Bolingbrook beat them by 29 and was up by 40 at some point in the game…? How is Joliet west ranked higher than Bolingbrook!!

    • Michael O'Brien

Joliet West beat North Lawndale. Bolingbrook hasn’t beaten (or even played) a ranked team.

True… Thorton exited the Decatur early which would have given them that good early ranked matchup…. Thanks

Where is Bloomington? The Raiders are Great this year Chris Payton Superior Sophomore with multiple 20+Pts 10+Rebs games!!!!

This is a chicago area, sun times delivery area ranking. Does not include downstate teams. Imagine how good bloomington would be if the other payton didnt transfer. I assume there is a story behind that transfer since his brother stayed?

    What about Waukegan

St.Charles North High School deserves some props…Win over West Aurora (ranked 18th in state) last Saturday.

Who cares where your ranked in December…..
The only poll that matters is the last one in March, after state.
As for ‘Crest having 3 losses. Program is always “cooking” for March dinner. Just a notorious tough team no one wants to play during state run for last 30 years, under Capel or Houston.

Evanston at 10-1, might just be getting ready to put it all together this season. Starting to play like it’s leader Nojel Eastern, unselfishly. Playing to win period. Tough schedule is and will continue to pay off.

I watch this colum from the Quad Cities. It’s fun to think where UTHS might fit in. UT is at Pekin with Lanphier with Ut being one seed and SL #2. I hope they meet in the championship game. Keep up the great work!

It’s a ranking system in December. Who cares! People get so worked up about something like this. Thank god the Sun Times actually covers High School sports, because otherwise there would be nothing. Be grateful for that! Your kid is getting a scholarship because of some ranking. So relax and enjoy the season!

Agreed – but it is fun to have some debate, Those people that are making this personal need to lighten up. Judgment will always be involved in ranking. You can disagree, but nice about it and state your case. I am sure Mike will listen. It is impossible for him to know every team in the area.

      • CSL Fan

Absolutely Ray! I was referring to those making it personal. Just happy we get some coverage of high school hoops in Chicagoland.

  • James

Has Hillcrest or Rita beat a good team yet? Surprised to see them in with mutiple losses.

  • RealityCheck

Geneva #21? Is this list a joke? You talk about the importance of big wins… What good team has Geneva played? This looks more like a list of coaches that Michael has personal relationships with.

    • James

Dont be a jerk. You can only beat the teams you play and they beat everyone they played. Mike made a judgement – but several undefeated teams were left out, so he doesnt put them in blindly.

      • Ray

How did Geneva get the pick over Willowbrook and WWS? I think both teams have better wins. The WWS win over NN doesn’t look so good anymore, since NN seems to have gone the way of Proviso East and St Joes. But I still think wins over Wheaton North and NN on the road are better than a win over Batavia. Batavia is actually pretty bad, they lost to St Francis and Elgin. By the way – WWS also beat Batavia. I don’t think any of them will make it in the final top 25. The Holiday Tournaments will weed out some of these undefeated teams.

        • Michael O'Brien

Went with Geneva because I think they are better than WWS. I saw WWS this week and I’ll take Geneva right now. Agreed on the resume though.

    • Michael O'Brien

Well that’s a first. I’ve been assailed for many rankings foibles, but personal relationships with coaches is a new one.

  • Rich noone

Your ranking system is comical at times. You take out DeLaSalle for losing to highly rated FENWICK but leave St. Rita after they lost to 6-4 Marian Catholic.

  • Real Hoop watcher

Your rankings are a joke. Uplift won the tournament of champions to a team Kenwood lost to by 10 and you put them ahead of Uplift. Then North lawndale loses and they’re ahead of Uplift . Uplift has not lost to anyone from the STATE and you can’t wait to drop them.

  • Larry

    Evanston is 10-1
