I never complain about the ranking.. There’s alot of teams i haven’t seen so ill trust Michael O’Brien..

  • Angela

Brooks beat Farragut and Von Stuben. They should definitely be on this list especially after leading Simeon all the way to the 4th Qtr last week. Give those boys some recognition Griffith, Shields and Harris are game changers!

BTW Notre Dame is still boring !

Bolingbrook and Joliet West appear to be better than Evanston. I know it is hard to change your original rankings, I think you would take both of them right now over Evanston. although I find it hard to pull for Bolingbrook, which appears to be a team that has improved based on transfers. Is it fair to the other teams in that conference that they built a super-team with transfers? Is it fair to the kid that was the 6th or 7th man on the team last year and does not get to play this year?

The catholic schools build this way all the time, is it fair to the neighborhood schools that they are able to build powerhouse programs by having kids come from the neighborhood?

      • James

Very true. But it is not just the private schools. The city powers are all recruiting. How is it that good basketball players get into Whitney Young all the time when they only accept a small percentage of applicants? The school administration has to be involved. It really makes for an unfair system. I wish we had a solution.

Joliet West and Evanston look about even to me right now. Joliet was great against North Lawndale but had narrow wins against Lincoln-Way Central and Rich South. The Wildkits have more quality wins, defeating Conant and Prospect. Evanston also hasn’t been truly challenged by any local team. Their early-season resume is slightly stronger.

I don’t think Bolingbrook is better than Evanston yet, but they could wind up better in the long run. The Raiders definitely have more talent, they are still fitting things together with the new faces though. I don’t have any problems changing my original rankings. I consider it totally fair game to move a team after I see them play for the first time.

Yeah, I saw some articles from the past couple years where Binns had like 10 points! Also the Oswego East kid was unstoppable.

    • Joe

Ray agreed! One of the new Bolingbrook boys was set to attend Romeoville and then switched right before school started. So you mean to tell me all these transfers families moved and now live in the district just like that? It’s that easy? I wonder how much paperwork was forged. I guess no one regulates this stuff though so who cares.

Did fractional north win last week? Weren’t they your 26th pick last week? Just asking.

    • Michael O'Brien

TF North beat Oak Lawn and I think Evergreen Park this week. But the other teams managing another week undefeated takes precedence. And TF North’s win over Bogan is no longer such a big deal. Learned Bogan was without three senior starters for that game.

Five of top twenty five at Pontiac, plus Manuel, Danville, and Bloomington. Should be a fantastic tourney! Dark horse, Bloomington.

Mike. Did a team lose a game today by 20 points to a team with a 2 – 4 record and move into the top 25? I guess it was probably the coaches fault for scheduling two games in a day. I realize some of the undefeated teams do not have good wins. But bad losses should be punished also. But a team like Wheaton South has been killing teams. If they beat NN this week they deserve a look.

    • RealityCheck

You’re kidding right? How about scheduling a top 25 team during the season if you really want to be taken seriously. No softball schedules here bro.

      • James

Agreed but you have to be consistent. Who has DGN or Jacobs beat? DGN beat lake park by 2 and Wheaton South beat them by over 20. I did say they need to beat NN to get ranked. NN has one OT loss and beat West Aurora by 19. Would that qualify as a good win? Do you drop a team out of the top 25 if a win that looked like a good win early, but is not now. What does a Proviso East or St Joes win do for you now?

        • Michael O'Brien

Downers Grove North has a win over a pretty good Lyons team. That got them in before some of the other undefeated teams.

    • Michael O'Brien

The Farragut ranking is certainly controversial. But in the end I always put a premium on wins over good teams. H-F is as good as any team in the area outside of the top five. So the Admirals get a lot of credit for that. Westinghouse is also a top 30-35 quality team. Brooks isn’t as bad as its record implies. The Eagles led Simeon in the 3Q earlier this week.

    • Michael O'Brien

Wheaton South, Willowbrook, Geneva and Jacobs were all right there for the 25 spot this week. Went with Jacobs because of Krutwig. Geneva is probably 26 right now just based on the recent success of the program, I can trust them a bit more. But you are right, if WWS beats Naperville North they will get serious consideration.

      • James

Agreed it is a coin flip and i think it is good you put them in now, because they will have some tough games in the Red and will likely not stay in. It is good to use 24 and 25 for new teams each week. Before proviso east went in the tank, willowbrooks wins looked the best of this group. This will be a good week to weed out some of the bubble teams. DGN has two tough games. Dont forget, west aurora, TF North or Oswego East – all are putting together nice records. Probably 10 teams could share the 25th spot. As always nice job.
